Research Interests

Dr. Feng’s research field is the high-performance structures with emerging materials and advanced construction technics for civil engineering, including the following interests.
? ALL-FRP (FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER) STRUCTURES AND FRP HYBRID STRUCTURES, including FRP-concrete-steel hybrid columns, FRP bridges and FRP-concrete hybrid bridges, FRP woven web structures, FRP transmission towers, FRP-aluminum hybrid structures, and FRP tendons/cables.
? FRP STRENGTHENING EXISTING STRUCTURES, including FRP strengthening steel to resist buckling or to resist fatigue failure, steel pipeline strengthening, and anti-collapse strengthening for reinforced concrete structures.
? ADVANCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES, including durable concrete structures, 3D-printed cementitious structures, cold-formed thin-walled steel reinforced concrete structures, industrialized precast concrete structures, and bionic engineering design.
? INTEGRATION OF STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, including corrosion resistant structures in server environments, sandwich panels integrated solar cell, life-cycle behavior of desulfurization system in power stations, FRP gas flues and chimneys, and maintenance-free offshore structures.

Research Projects

? DEVELOPMENT AND BEHAVIOR STUDY ON INNOVATIVE FRP-CONCRETE HYBRID STRUCTURES FROM OCEAN AND FOR OCEAN, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Project No. 51478246 (2015-2018)
This project is to present an innovative FRP-concrete hybrid structure system from ocean and for ocean. The structure is composed of the fabricated FRP beam-slab system and the column of sea sand concrete-filled FRP tubes embedded FRP pultruded profiles. Two themes on materials and structures are included: the durability of FRP and sea sand concrete in the marine environment, and the short- and long-term performance of this innovative FRP-concrete hybrid structure including columns, beam-slabs and joints.
? MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR AND MECHANICAL-PHOTOVOLTAIC PROPERTIES OF CURVED FRP SANDWICH PANELS WITH FLEXIBLE SOLAR CELL SKIN, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Project No.51278276 (2013-2016)
This project is to present an innovative building system integrating functions and structure, which is assembled with FRP sandwich panels skinned with flexible solar cells to form the non-linear shapes. The key techniques and design theory are to be developed. The large size panel sample will be manufactured and tested.
? LIGHTWEIGHT FRP STRUCTURE SYSTEM FOR BUILDINGS AND BRIDGES, National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program) No. 2012CB026200 (2012-2016)
This project is to present the lightweight structure systems made of FRP and to study the structural behavior. The weight, ductility, and strength reliability are considered synthesizedly from the component level to the structure level.
